This historic theatre was built in 1926 by regional bridge builder M.E. Gillioz. Established on the newly announced Route 66, the theatre was originally a hybrid theatre; hosting both vaudeville and film presentations. As vaudeville faded, the theatre leaned more heavily on film programming, and eventually closed. A passionate community rallied to see the Gillioz restored and reopened in 2006.
The Gillioz has emerged as the premiere event venue in Springfield. Programming includes a blend of film, music concerts, conferences, comedy, theatre and opera. The ornate décor is breathtaking, and the intimacy of the 1044 seat theatre makes every presentation historic for both patron and performer.
